about

The soundscapes of Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve/Wawasan Hill in this album were captured during the Covid-19 pandemic. The forest reserve is only open to fully vaccinated hikers, which means there are fewer humans creating noise in the forest, making it the optimum time for field recordings.

My gear: DIY binaural Mic - Coconut Ears (coconut shell, a pair of silicone ears), Clippy XLR EM272 stereo microphones recorded into Zoom H5 & F6

About Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve:
It's a 3.4-mile (8,000-step) route in Selangor, Malaysia. This route has an elevation gain of around 869.2 feet and is classified as difficult. Originally covering 4270 hectares and gazetted as a forest reserve in 1906, it has been de-gazetted several times over the years, and today only covers about 1200 hectares.
